According to the latest NPD figures, the PlayStation 3 has now sold approximately 11,761,000 units in the US till the end of February. The Xbox 360, on the otherhand, has broken the 19 million mark with approximately 19,383,900 units sold. At the end of last April, the Xbox 360 had double the install base of the PS3, with 14.9 million 360s and only 7.5 million PS3s in the NPD.
The PlayStation 3 sales are slowly catching up to the Xbox 360, but note that the 360 has had a one year advantage over the PS3. The PS3 is selling out across the US and Europe with the release of highly anticipated games including God of War III, Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII.
Popular retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy in the US are showing both the 120gb version and the 250gb version as sold out, while GAME and Argos are also running out of stock in the UK. There is no doubt that the stock shortages will affect PS3 sales over the next few months.
Thats an amazing amount of numbers sold, for both consoles! Kool how the PS3 is catching up!
