Jack Tretton, SEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, recently appeared on GTTV to talk about the PlayStation and E3 2010. One of the questions that came up was related to PSN subscriptions. According to Tretton, Sony will only charge for the PSN if they “can come up with a compelling experience that will warrant an investment from consumers.”
As far as subscription services are concerned, we’re really proud of the service that we offer the consumer for free,” said Tretton in the latest episode of GTTV. “There’s no question that if we can come up with a compelling experience that will warrant an investment from consumers that that would be something we would consider.
We already feel we brough a lot of value to the consumer… but until we feel we have something, like PlayStation Move, that justifies an investment, we aren’t going to come out with half cocked technology or product offerings.
Tretton also mentioned that GDC 2010 (where PlayStation Move was officially named) was only a taste of what’s to come this year. Sony is keeping a number of titles under wraps until E3 later this year. “I’m saving the batter for E3. We will absolutely bring the heat,” he said. Little information about what to expect was revealed, except that you can expect a Killzone 3. “I don’t know whether you’ll see announcements about it [at E3], but I can promise you a Killzone 3,” said Tretton.
