With its unique gameplay and critical acclaim, Heavy Rain has sold over 500,000 units in its first week on shelves. Although the game received great reviews, many feared that the game would not do well in terms of sales. Preliminary sales data from VGChartz show that Heavy Rain is doing well so far. In key markets – around 200,000 were sold in the Americas, nearly 100,000 in the UK, over 50,000 in France and 25,000 in Japan.
If sales continue thoughout the year, the title should see sales exceed 1.5 million units by Christmas. Heavy Rain is on top of the all-format charts this week and Sony is expecting shortages of the game, especially in the UK. Speaking to MVC, a spokesperson for SCEUK said:
We have been extremely delighted with the demand for Heavy Rain,” an SCE UK spokesperson told MCV.
Whilst it isn’t out of stock we are aware that supplies are running low. There is still supply in the chain, but I’m afraid if you’re hunting for a copy it may require a little extra footwork. There will be more stock arriving next week.
In the meantime we thank everyone for their excitement and their support for this title and also for their patience if they are still seeking a copy.
