There has been a lot of speculation on what Sony would be calling their upcoming motion controller. If Sony was preparing a surprising unveiling of the name, then their plans have been thwarted. In a press conference held in New York City this mornin, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello let slip the name of the controller – or did he?
When talking about console pricing and innovation at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference, Riccitiello briefly mentions the two upcoming motion controllers set for release in 2010.
“In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.”
It could have been a mistake or he knows something we all don’t. Personally, I prefer Sphere.
UPDATE:
SCEA’s Patrick Seybold has revealed that “Gem” is just “an early code name for the product” and isn’t necessarily the controller’s final name. “We haven’t announced final name at this point,” said Seybold.
Sphere , that’s what it should be called , or MAGIC SPHERE , or some wizard wand 😛 GEM it doesn’t even look a bit like a gem
Thank god its a codename, nearly as good as dolphin…
