There have been a lot of comparison videos surfacing this week testing the loading speeds between the old PS3 and the new PS3 Slim. It’s pretty clear that the PS3 Slim is faster than the older model, and it’s not just because of the new Cell CPU. Other reasons include the updated Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 Slim and better hard disk performance. EuroGamer did some extensive tests to see how fast the PS3 Slim exactly is.
Test 1: Blu-Ray Performance
Test 2: Hard Disk Install of Assassin’s Creed
Test 3: Hard Disk Install of Devil May Cry 4
In all three tests, the PS3 Slim has been faster. Loading up the first “FNG” training level, we see a clear speed advantage to the Slim: 24 seconds for its loading bar to complete compared to 26.2 on the “Fat”. Assassin’s Creed installs in 3 minutes, 11 seconds on the Slim, versus 3 minutes and 18 seconds on the older unit. DMC4 installs in 18 minutes, 42 seconds versus 21 minutes, 23 seconds on the “Fat” – a whopping great 2 minutes, 41 seconds advantage.
