The new PlayStation Portable firmware is now available to download. Firmware 5.00 adds PlayStation Store access directly from the PSP, allowing you to purchase and download games and other content. The update also adds the redesigned XMB interface, a new sleep times to the [Music] menu and PSN Account Management options. You can update your PSP using the Network Update feature from the PSP [Settings] menu.

- The number of file types that can be played has been increased to include MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) Video Main Profile (AVC CABAC) in 640 x 480 pixels. Some video files of this type may not be playable.

Nice improvements, but not worth a major firmware number. More like 4.10. If Sony keeps this up, PSP firmware will be at version 20.10 this time next year (lol)

Impressive list of features when compared to firmware 4.00, and well worth a full increment in my mind considering how extensive it is.
