David Reeves, President of SCEE, has revealed some new information about PlayTV, the PVR for the PlayStation 3, including details of when it will launch and what the device can do. Speaking to Eurogamer, Reeves said that PlayTV will be released in Europe on Septermber 10th 2008, and will allow gamers to record television shows even while playing games.
New Zealand and Australia will get PlayTV early next year due to differences in the digital terrestrial standards. Compatibility for the device was added in Firmware 2.41. PlayTV will retail for £99.
Be worth investing in a bigger hard drive for our ps3’s for when this comes out.
You can pick up a decent PVR with twin tuners and time shifting for just £80.00. By the time you add a decent hard-drive, I can’t see that playTV’s going to be worth £99.00. It seems to have been priced for the fanboy market and no-one else.
I’m guessing that with HDMI output it’s going t be harder to transfer anything onto DVD you want to keep longer than it is from a standalone PVR.
Wait wat about North America to be specific Canada? (crossed finger)
I must be a fanboy then, im getting one. Sure ive read somewhere that you can watch what ever you record on your ps3 on your psp remotely. Is that true, think of it, never miss out on corronation street and eastenders while on holiday. Wicked.
The tech that makes PlayTV uses isn’t available in the U.S. yet. Terrestrial Television, which the 1Seg tuner and PlayTV use to pick up TV signals, is currently only available in San Diego which isn’t enough for Sony to make a nationwide effort.

I think its useless but im may give the PS3 more popularity.
