When using Wi-Fi, the PSP reverts to its old CPU clock speed of 222 MHz, despite the recent firmware update that unlocks the full speed of the PSP. David Karraker, Sony’s Senior Director of Corporate Communications, confirmed the news that the 222 MHz speed cap is in effect when Wi-Fi is turned on. What does all this mean? Slower loading times when playing ad-hoc and infrastructure multiplayer games.
“The article is correct that increased CPU speed cannot be used with the PSP’s wireless feature,” said Karraker, referring to the report. “SCEA [Sony Computer Entertainment America] is working closely with the development community to take full advantage of this new functionality where appropriate for their titles.”
People seem to be making a big deal out of what Sony has been doing.
Every game to date has been locked at 222MHz for the cpu when they use the wi-fi features of the PSP, since games have supposedly been able to use 266Mhz in game since the launch it seems that this news is just people bickering over Sony to continue doing this practice.
I agree. Who cares if Sony has locked the cpu to 222. It didn’t make a difference before so why should it make a difference now?
I was wondering if anyone could help me on this cpu speed multiplayer problem.
I’m using devhook 2.71 and when I try play gta:liberty city stories with my mate on ad-hoc multiplayer, psp always loads up too fast and disconnects just before my mate’s psp connects.
Everything for a normal wi-fi connection is correct and my cpu speed is at 222mzh/111mzh, so I don’t know what the hell is wrong. if anybody knows whats wrong, please leave a comment on this!! Thanks heaps
