Some of you may have seen the You Tube videos of Final Fantasy VII (7) being emulated on the PSP using Dark_AleX’s Custom Firmware 3.02 OE-B. Well, we have taken the liberty of emulating Final Fantasy VIII (8) on OE-B.
Check out the video below. The process involves ripping CD1 of Final Fantasy 8 (we found that the NTSC version works the best. We did try the PAL version but it freezes after boot.) and using PopStation to convert the ISO into a EBOOT. Once done, simply copy the EBOOT onto the PSP (into X:/PSP/GAME/[some-folder])and run it from the GAME menu.
wow, Both final fantasy 7 and 8 being emulated on the PSP? What more can a FF fan want. Now all i have to do is decide which to start off with!
wher do you get the eboot to stick on your psp from?
You need to rip the game urself and use the hot shot 2 key.bin file as the key. You will need to create the iso using popstation and hot shot 2.
Do all three discs need to refer to the same SCUS in order for saves between “discs” to work? I changed my disc1 EBOOT SCUS to 00900 (SCES-00900 Final Fantasy VII [Disc1of3] from gamelist). Also, does game name matter?
I’m not too sure about that. I think the SCUS need to be the same but the game name does not matter. If you do find that the game can’t be loaded, you can simply copy the MEMCARD1.DAT files into the new SCUS folder.
It seems that you cannot modify the savadata files in any way or the PSX emulator will not pick it up. Sony has encrypted the files so they can’t be modified. Hopefully someone will crack the encryption and release an app to transfer savedata.
Is someone else having problems running FF 8? the game seems to be crashing sometimes after using a couple of spells. I hope something can be done about this.
Hi, well i got ff9 to run without using keys.bin. But i too have problems with ff8, it freeze on me after the playstation logo. i didn’t use keys.bin for ff8 to create, umm so can help me out thanx.
